Oeiras (Portugal), October 1st-4th, 2012
The kick-off meeting to PhytFire presented a multi-purpose program
ranging from direct communication to stakeholders, to planning and
presenting the scientific tasks to be performed during the action and
was capped by a two-day to lab training course designed to disseminate
the techniques for plant inspection diagnostics in the participating
countries.
- A first meeting was held on October 1st where project
specifics, scientist-exchange, targeted collaborations and ring-trials
(lab/field) were discussed and confirmed among PhytFire partners
(Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Estonia,
Lithuania, Russia).
- A stakeholder
forum was held on October 2nd with very
active exchange between international researchers, Portuguese policy
makers, grower unions, extension agents, plant inspectors, and
students. There was great interest in the ‘pregnancy test’
for fire blight that Agroscope developed together with Bioreba.
- The final two days (October 3rd and 4th) were employed to
conduct a phytosanitary lab training course to
build capacity for plant
inspection diagnostics across Europe with a training manual of
validated methods produced. Similar dissemination events are now being
planned for each of the partner countries.
